As the craze for Asian dramas reach its peak, T.V. shows that center around the LGBTQ community seem to be lacking. However, Thailand is a country that's progressive when it comes this topic. And as proof, they even have a series genre called "Boys Love" (BL) which portray guy-to-guy relationships on-screen. Falling under this genre is the SOTUS series which apparently has a huge fanbase across Asia and other parts of the world. 

Over the weekend, the cast of the SOTUS series visited Manila for a fan meeting, and we got to spend a few minutes with lead stars Prachaya Ruangroj A.K.A. Singto and Perawat Sangpotirat A.K.A. Krist backstage before their jam-packed event started. During our quick interview, we got to talk to these  Thai actors about their game-changing show as well as their views concerning the LGBTQ community, and, to our pleasant surprise, they've got heartwarming insights worth remembering.

In the SOTUS series, Singto plays Kongpob Suthiluck, a freshman who doesn't go by the rules of the SOTUS (Seniority, Order, Tradition, Unity, and Spirit) system and adamantly stands up to the seniors who have the tendency to bully his class. He meets the school's merciless senior and head of the hazing team Arthit Rojnapat portrayed by Krist who's initially his worst enemy until their junior-senior relationship soon turns into a budding romance. 

When asked what it's like to portray a character in the LGBTQ community, Singto's answer was straight-forward and eye-opening. He quips, "Our show isn't exactly about the LGBTs. It's about love in general, that same love we all feel regardless of gender."

Acceptance and equality is somthing that the LGBTQ community still struggles to achieve up to this day. But both Singto and Krist believe that this should not be the case. "They are just humans. They are like me, and they are like everyone," Krist claims. Furthermore, he mentions that we should all be given the freedom to love anyone we want to love. "It's just natural," he says.

For Singto, the LGBTQ community "makes this world beautiful" which is why they should be welcomed with open arms. He elaborates, "The LGBTQ community is just like another color that is unique and makes this world even more colorful." Krist supports his co-star's sentiments saying that these inspiring individuals are innately "creative" and have the "gift of art," citing his peers who are stylists and makeup artists as examples.

But no matter how much support the LGBTQ community is receiving today more than ever, the stigma is still palpably there. With that in mind, the two actors conclude our interview with one moving point. "They don't have to understand now," Singto says, referring to those who can't grasp same-sex relationships. "One day, when they find their true love, they will realize that love is the same no matter the gender." Krist adds, "Gender is not relevant when it comes to love. But in case some people still don't understand this in time, what's important is that we all give due respect to each other at the end of the day."
